THE EQUALIZER First Look: Harry and Aunt Vi Meet, as Robyn Hosts a Dinner Party
October 24, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
THE EQUALIZER Robyn McCall’s (Queen Latifah) worlds further collide—for a much nicer reason—on the Sunday, November 13 episode, “Blowback.”
In the hour, Mel (Liza Lapira) and Harry (Adam Goldberg) come to Robyn’s house for dinner…and it’s a family affair, alongside Aunt Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes). Not only does the meal serve as the first time Harry and Aunt Vi meet, but it also is the first time the quintet are all together. And based on first look photos Give Me My Remote is debuting from “Blowback,” it certainly seems like things are going well for the group.
The walls between Robyn’s worlds had slowly been crumbling as she continued with her vigilante work, but the process sped up when she was kidnapped in the season premiere and all hands were on deck to find her. And while Mel has met Robyn’s family a number of times, Harry—who used to be fairly confined to his home base—is now slowly making his way into the outside world.
When the season kicked off, THE EQUALIZER co-showrunner Joseph C. Wilson pointed to Harry and Aunt Vi as a combination the writers were particularly excited to dig into. “Now we’re talking about scenes where, ‘What happens when Harry meets Vi? What’s going to happen there?'” he previously teased to GMMR. “Comedy and hijinks are going to happen. And they’re going to develop a special relationship through Vi’s love of cooking, and all these special dishes that she makes.”
Unfortunately for Robyn, though, it won’t be all delicious food in the hour. According to the official logline, “When a smuggler being detained by the CIA must be transferred quickly to a secure debriefing site to speak with a high-level agent, McCall works with Carter Griffin to ensure he arrives unharmed. Also, Dante deals with the possibility of his father being released from prison.” The episode also serves as an introduction for Donal Logue‘s Colton Fisk, who is described as being “one of the CIA’s most decorated agents.”
“The way they come into contact, they’ve got a common love for [Chris Noth’s] Bishop [who died in season 2]—which also puts them in opposition at the same time,” Wilson previously teased. “Fisk blames McCall for what happened to Bishop. But Bishop has explained to Fisk who McCall is and how great she is. And Fisk is going to find out, ‘Oh, she’s better than advertised.’ And he feels like he can use that.”
