FBI Post-Mortem: Rick Eid on the Fallout From the Major Nina and Scola Twist
November 6, 2022 by Marisa Roffman
[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Sunday, November 6 episode of FBI, “Double Bind.”]
FBI’s Scola (John Boyd) and Nina (Shantel VanSanten) accidentally took a major step forward in their relationship on the Sunday, November 6 hour, “Double Bind”…but it made everything between the duo a million times more complicated.
Initially, Nina was upset after a doctor appointment, but hesitant to let Scola what was going on. Eventually, she confessed the truth—she’s pregnant.
Of course, they still had a case to work. And when a CIA agent’s son was kidnapped, Nina watched as the mother risked it all to make sure her child was brought back home, safely, even it meant she sacrificed her own freedom to do it.
Nina was rattled, ultimately deciding she needed space, both from the team and Scola. (She wasn’t going far, however, only transferring a few floors away.) She and Scola parted, with everything about their future uncertain.
When the show returns on Tuesday, November 15, FBI boss Rick Eid shares there will be “no time jump” between Nina’s exit and Maggie’s (Missy Peregrym) return from medical leave.
“With Maggie returning to reclaim her spot on the team, Nina will mostly be off doing her own thing, working in a different division of the FBI,” he tells Give Me My Remote via email. “But we haven’t seen the last of her. In fact, you can expect to see her again real soon.”
Earlier in the season, Boyd noted Scola might struggle to accept he actually could have a happy life outside of work. “Something about him is that he’s always felt that that life—[with] a full, a real, intimate loving relationship—is something that’s reserved for other people,” he shared at the time. “Like so many of us, it’s so relatable. And I think he’s one of those people that it’s like, ‘This is the job I chose. This is what I do. I do it well. I give everything to this. And that thing about human life is reserved for other people. I don’t really get to have it.'”
Now, “we will see Scola processing the news of Nina’s pregnancy this season,” Eid previews. “I’m not sure Scola himself knows what he wants and whether he feels ready for fatherhood. But he and Nina care about each other, and hopefully he can lean on Tiff and his teammates for support.”
