About Last Night…THE EQUALIZER, CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE, BOB’S BURGERS, and More

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
THE SIMPSONS: I don’t love playing the “they’ve done this storyline before” card, but we’ve seen a celebrity attach themselves to Homer because of his parenting. (Hello, Krusty.) This was perfectly fine, but not a wild standout episode, alas.
THE EQUALIZER: Congrats to the show, because I suspected Griffin for so long, and finally went back to not thinking he was dirty, only for, yep, the reveal that he was dirty and has been screwing over McCall for a long time. (And got Bishop killed.)
It’s always a delicate balance when the real-life news of who someone is going to play inadvertently spoils an episode-long twist, but the show at least did a good job of making Fisk’s sneakiness entertaining enough that it being ruined didn’t also ruin the hour. But, man, even knowing Colton blaming Robyn for Bishop’s death was coming did not make that final scene hurt less.
My heart breaks for Dante. There’s absolutely a chance if he lets his father near his sons, it’ll wind up hurting them and him. But I can also see how he may live with regret if he doesn’t take the chance. Hopefully it doesn’t go too bad for them.
(But, also, holy Dante/Robyn hug?! It managed to be both extremely hot and sweet.)
I absolutely loved the family dinner. I would watch an entire comedy spinoff of Harry and Aunt Vi discussing food. But, man, Mel agreeing to train D is going to end in a mess, one way or another. (And Robyn is going to be livid.)
[For more on the episode, here’s what Tory Kittles shared.]
THE GREAT NORTH: Beef and Judy were entirely on different pages about why their days were so awful, but it was really lovely how far Beef was willing to go for his kid. (Also, Alanis being skeptical about Judy being in love so soon as perfect.)
CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE: Look, thrilling “Thrilling Waterslides” isn’t a wildly logical puzzle, but every single contestant getting it wrong—in part because they missed the plural—was the stuff of comedy/would not be believable in a scripted show. I can’t believe Paul Scheer got the opportunity to win the round after guessing wrong the first time.
Also, “Electric Bill Hader”?? I knew someone was going to guess Vader, but I hoped they would know BILL HADER. Did they entirely forget it was Before & After?
On paper, it was kind of a mess of a game, but at least it was a “Oh my God, I cannot believe this is happening”-level of fun mess.
BOB’S BURGERS: Aw, to Gene having a bad VR experience. Bob trying to do everything he could to make sure his son didn’t lose his childhood/innocence for a little longer was sweet. (Also, man, that VR would have been awful for 2012…poor Gene.)
I regret to inform you I now want to make a menu pyramid.
FAMILY GUY: It was “be nice to the kids” night on Fox, because this was another episode where the adult-like figures went above and beyond to protect the kids. Poor Stewie got lost and was petrified, but Brian let him believe he was just really great at hide and seek.
