CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION’s Kirsten Vangsness on Getting to Do ‘Dangerous, Emotional’ Acting with Joe Mantegna

Though much of the BAU team is now back together on CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION, things aren’t exactly back to normal for Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and Rossi (Joe Mantegna).

For Garcia, who left her job and is reluctantly back when it became very, very clear her expertise was needed, she’s now attempting to keep her own boundaries with a new version of Rossi—who is mourning his wife and has thrown himself into the work.

“We’re like family [in real life]…it’s really pleasurable to  have these moments where it’s just me and Joe, but it’s me and Joe in this given set of circumstances,” Vangsness tells reporters in the video below. “He’s such a good actor that I always say he gives you this big open space to safely do a lot of dangerous, emotional things, which is really, really fun.”

The duo trying to find their way around this new work relationship makes it so “they’re intimate with each other, in a way that you haven’t seen it before,” she explains. “And I think that Rossi behaves differently with Garcia, and it’s really special.”
