THE VOICE Winner Bryce Leatherwood on His Season 22 Success and Enduring Partnership with Blake Shelton

THE VOICE’s Team Blake took home its ninth victory—in 22 seasons!—when Bryce Leatherwood was crowned the champion on the Tuesday, December 13 episode.

As Leatherwood was on stage with fellow finalists bodie (who was the official runner-up, and was also on Team Blake) and Morgan Myles (who came in 3rd place, and was on Team Camila), the trio were reaffirming their love for each other.

“We were saying, ‘I love y’all…whatever happens, all of y’all deserve this,'” Leatherwood recalls to Give Me My Remote in the video below. “And we all knew that…everyone’s a winner here, because the exposure that we’ve gotten—it’s been so much. The only thing going through my mind during the moment where Carson was reading [things was], what a great ride. This is something I will only be able to do once in my life, but this has been the greatest experience I’ve ever had in my life, for sure.”

When his name was called, after a moment with fellow competitors, Leatherwood acknowledges he felt “the culmination of everything, every emotion—it was the coolest moment.”

Naturally, coach Blake Shelton helped snap the singer out of it when he “picked me up and shook me a little bit: ‘Come on, you’re the winner. Quit crying!'” Leatherwood says with a laugh.

Things really started to hit home when Leatherwood was able to see his family .”To see my parents right after was incredible, too, [plus] my grandparents, seeing them happy, and knowing I made them proud,” he says. “That’s [what] it was all about for me—family and making people happy. So I was able to do a lot of that last night and it’s just been incredible.”

With his career ahead of him, Leatherwood acknowledges it might be a roller coaster—but he can count on Shelton to help him through the ups and downs.

“He told me last night, ‘Hey, don’t be shy to call me,'” Leatherwood shares. “I got his number. Mostly, I just want to go hang out with a guy for a little while and maybe end up on an episode of [Shelton’s new USA Network series] BARMAGGEDON, and whoop his tail in some bar games. But until then, I’m definitely going to use his contact for any help I need. So I know he’ll be there for that.”
