CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION’s Zach Gilford on the Joys of Being Directed by His Co-Stars

When Zach Gilford joined CRIMINAL MINDS: EVOLUTION, he was already a fan of the franchise. But the slight downside of his season-long arc as Elias, the devious serial killer the BAU is tracking? He doesn’t get a lot of time to act with the CRIMINAL MINDS vets.

There is, however, a silver-ling: A number of the cast members stepped behind the camera during EVOLUTION to direct.

“It was so fun being directed by the cast,” Gilford tells reporters in the video below. “Actor-directors are usually amazing, because they give you good notes. They’re watching it, as it’s happening,  [and] they’re having thoughts of, ‘If I was in this scene, I’d want to do that,’ or whatever. They’ve given me nothing but amazing notes. They’ve been so respectful.”

“And because I haven’t gotten to act with them, I haven’t gotten to know them. And when they’re directing you, you have a lot of time to get to know them really well,” he continues. “Every cast member has been so cool…just awesome human beings and amazing at their jobs.”
