LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME Preview: Danielle Moné Truitt and Ainsley Seiger Shine in ‘Punch Drunk’
February 1, 2023 by Marisa Roffman
LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME’s Organized Crime Control Bureau is in the thick of an undercover operation on the Thursday, February 2 episode, “Punch Drunk,” as they try to lure in Eamon Murphy (Timothy V. Murphy)—a criminal whom Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt) suspects may be behind the death of her former partner.
The hour also serves as an incredible acting showcase for Truitt and Ainsley Seiger as their characters find themselves in increasingly stressful situations.
For Seiger, who has frequently been woefully underutilized this season, Jet is deep undercover, trying to woo enforcer Seamus O’Meara (Michael Malarkey). Though Jet has done quick UC ops before, this marks the young detective’s biggest test yet, as she has to prove herself to Seamus—and her team. Seiger beautifully balances Jet’s vulnerability and determination throughout the episode.
Viewers have seen elements of Bell’s struggles this season, with the sergeant dealing with the loss of her marriage (and her son), in addition to nearly losing the task force. As Bell works to build a case against Eamon, Truitt has to seamlessly shift from badass cop, protective/concerned mama bear (over her team), and…well, another gutting emotion. It’s not easy, acting-wise, and Truitt makes it appear effortless.
And as much as the duo shines in their respective storylines—and there are also a few fun beats with Truitt, Seiger, and Christopher Meloni’s Stabler to look forward to, as well—they’re arguably at their very, very best opposite each other in “Punch Drunk.” It’s too spoilery to reveal the why, but the hour serves to show just how freaking good Truitt and Seiger can be when they’re given meaty stuff to work with…and makes it clear they should get more one-on-one scenes in the future. (I’d argue it’s series-best work from them both, which is always fantastic to see.)
Oh, and an additional word of warning: Abstain from snacking during this scene.
