About Last Night…FBI, THE ROOKIE, FBI: MOST WANTED, and More
February 15, 2023 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
FBI: Looking at the episode by itself, I like what they did with Maggie and her mentor. Maggie did the right thing—especially after OA got shot?!—and was supportive, but put the job first.
But scheduling-wise, I’m a little bummed this came right after Jubal’s relapse? I didn’t expect to have a major follow-up to that, but a lot of the beats were exactly the same: An agent withheld their illness to keep doing the job they loved; Maggie figured it out and called them out on it; there was almost a catastrophic disaster that they were able to stop at the very last second.
Yes, in this case, Gwen told Maggie the truth, while Jubal didn’t, but there was just so much similarity. I wish there had been a few months between the episodes. (Or at least an acknowledgment that this kept happening to Maggie.)
THE ROOKIE: This episode didn’t work for me. You couldn’t do a full episode with Nolan and Bailey dealing with his dead mom’s stuff, but juxtaposing it with the way more serious attempted double-cross with Elijah just felt like a tonal hodgepodge.
But, hey, it was nice to see the FEDS people.
(I remain very concerned about Lopez and Wesley’s unborn kid.)
FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Ugh, I loved this episode. Jaeger absolutely broke my heart, both with the new tidbits from her history she revealed, as well as having to face the fact someone she trusted was actually a very, very bad man. I loved getting to see her interact with the team, and I hope we can get her back a couple of times a season…fingers crossed for more mayhem in Berlin.
FBI: MOST WANTED: Oy, Remy. It was rough to see him so out of control and desperate to save the kids…and despondent when it was clear he was at least partially unsuccessful. I’m not sure how much his tactics would have held up in court if their suspects didn’t die, but…that’s a whole other thing.
I do worry about how this new trial will impact him going forward. It’s understandable he doesn’t want to consider that someone else may have killed his brother. But as all of this trauma is brought back up, how is it going to impact his work, both as an agent and as a leader?
But also WTF to the case? That was so deeply messed up. (I was also definitely afraid the tongue was going to be straight sliced off, so I’m thankful they didn’t go down that route.)
