In the midst of preventing World War 3, QUANTUM LEAP’s Addison (Caitlin Bassett) had an emotional reunion with her father, Alexander Augustine (Brandon Routh) on the Monday, March 6 episode, “S.O.S.”

Though the duo’s time together was complicated by the fact Alexander didn’t actually know his daughter was there—only the leaping Ben (Raymond Lee) could see/interact with her—Addison got some insight into her father’s mindset…and got the chance to tell him he was a good dad.

“I know you’re scared that you’re going to hurt me,” Addison told the unaware Alexander. “And I know that you’re scared that you can’t be a good dad, because you’re too hard or cold. Or that you carry some kind of darkness inside of you. But whatever your dad had, it stops with you. Because you have done nothing but love me and make me the person that I am today. It is going to be okay, Dad.”

A beat later, Alexander walked away and told himself, “Everything’s going to be okay.”

“Anytime you learn the truth about your parents or the truth about your own history, it tweaks something in your reality,” Bassett tells Give Me My Remote in the video below. “And even though everybody experiences it differently, I do think there’s a universality to the fact that you go from a child’s perspective to an adult’s perspective and you stop expecting them to have been perfect. You start to just be thankful that they did the best that they could. And so I think there’s a growing up that happens with that. And I think, especially throughout the rest of the season, and especially into the next one, I enjoy picking the moments where Addison isn’t just doing the job to get the job done, because she’s always doing that. But [she] is actually maturing in her understanding and reactions to what happens in life now.”

With the series already filming season 2, both Routh and Bassett hope that there might be another appearance by Alexander in QUANTUM LEAP’s future.

“I would love to return,” Routh says. “I had a wonderful time. It’s a great show and all doors are open.”

“I’m very much hoping,” Bassett adds. “Either in a past version or present version, because as Brandon said, I don’t think it really changed the trajectory of the relationship up until this point, but it certainly would change the trajectory of their relationship from this point. So hopefully we get to explore that at some point.”
