CHICAGO FIRE: Jesse Spencer to Return for Season 11 Episode

Jesse Spencer is returning for the upcoming 18th episode of CHICAGO FIRE season 11, sources have confirmed.

Spencer played firefighter Matt Casey for the show’s first ten seasons, exiting as a regular in episode 200. He returned for the season 10 finale, as Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) tied the knot. Initially, Spencer’s Casey was in a long-distance relationship with Brett (Kara Killmer), but the duo broke up in the season 11 premiere.

At the time, CHICAGO FIRE co-showrunner Derek Haas expressed that the door was always open for Spencer to return.

“I never try to predict what’s going to happen, production-wise, but we’re in the camp of whenever Jesse wants to come do an episode with us, we will move mountains and Earth to make that happen,” Haas told reporters at the time. “So we’ve been talking; we’ve got some ideas of what that would be.”

Spencer’s return comes as FIRE is undergoing a few changes. Kinney took a break from the series, with his final episode, for now, airing in February; Severide, in the meantime, is in Alabama, undergoing arson investigation training. Haas will also be exiting from the series at the end of season 11.

Variety was first to report Spencer’s return.

Update (March 29): Here’s NBC’s official description of the episode, “Danger is All Around”: ” A familiar face returns to Firehouse 51 to serve with Kidd on a special task force. With Tony days away from breaking the CFD’s perfect attendance record, Mouch and Capp work to keep him safe. Old memories and grudges resurface when Gallo reunites with a family member.”
