About Last Night…FBI, AMERICAN AUTO, FBI: MOST WANTED, and More

FBI, AMERICAN AUTO, FBI: MOST WANTED

“Rangeland” – After two agents from the Bureau of Land Management go missing while executing a land seizure warrant in Wyoming, the Fugitive Task Force heads west to track them down in an unwelcoming county. Also, Hana receives a threat, on the CBS Original series FBI: MOST WANTED, Tuesday, April 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

FBI: When you cast Billy Campbell as a random guest star, odds are good he’s either going to be the bad guy or strike up a romance with someone important. (#ProceduralTVRules.) And, yes, he was not good.

It’s almost sad how relieved I was/am that the show acknowledged he was wrong, though. When Jubal and Jack had their meeting at the bar, I was hoping Jubal was wired…but a part of me was concerned this would be another secret he kept from the team. (And that beat, after the arrest, when Jubal was contemplating the booze…I’m glad Isobel was there; I remain intrigued by their dynamic.)

And, my God, OA talking about how the perception of him as a kid changed after 9/11 broke my heart. Zeeko Zaki was great in that scene.

THE ROOKIE: I really loved the Tim/Lucy/Isabel scenes, even if they make me worried about Tim and Lucy’s future. There’s zero doubt these two people love each other, but the idea of her being undercover for months on end? That’s hard to wrap your head around even abstractly. But for Tim, who still has trauma from how undercover work uprooted his entire life/relationship with Isabel…it’s a lot for him to contend with. I hope their love can withstand this.

AMERICAN AUTO: I had hoped Payne would make that stock deadline—though, arguably, you could have a lot of story if Katherine was (temporarily) fired–but I never, ever suspected it would come because the prices rose upon the news that Katherine might be on her way out.

But it puts the show in an interesting position for a (hopeful) season 3: So much of this year has been the team having to react and try to get the stock prices up. What the heck do they do when they have security with their jobs and can do what they want?

[For more on the episode and what’s possibly to come, here’s what star Ana Gasteyer shared.]

FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Carter Redwood was not kidding when he said the cases got personal as season 2 came to an end. Poor Maya—and, honestly, I’m kind of shocked she didn’t dump Raines for accidentally/unintentionally endangering her.

I also absolutely get why Raines was distraught, but I don’t blame Scott for diverting his attention and using Vo and Jamie to quasi-detain him. He was too close to the situation. (Has that stopped Scott before, though? Of course not.)

But it was a great episode. Great performances.

FBI: MOST WANTED: Look, the case was a tough sell for me, because it’s hard for that subject matter to grab me. I might enjoy it a bit more on the second watch?

But Hana and Kristin? My God. One of my favorite scenes of the series. (Not to mention one of the best-performed scenes, too.) Hana’s spiral into vigilantism escalated far faster than I anticipated, but I’m so glad she confided in Kristin. And, importantly, I’m so glad Kristin reacted the way she did. She was concerned and caring, but not in a way that made Hana shut down. Kristin was (obviously) so aware of how trauma can impact a person and revealed a bit of her own so Hana understood, yes, she does get it.

Much like CHICAGO P.D. has been doing with Kim, I’m so glad MOST WANTED is really addressing the deeply traumatic situation Hana went through. The end sequence was a considerable amount of time not devoted to the case of the week, but was really important. I’m glad the MOST WANTED writers prioritized that. And I’m curious how that impacts the Hana/Kristin relationship going forward…even if it’s just a subtle, non-verbal, checking in.

(And, yes, I hope this doesn’t blow up in their faces.)
