About Last Night…AMERICAN IDOL, THE SIMPSONS, THE EQUALIZER, and More

Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
AMERICAN IDOL: It was a quasi-self-indulgent episode, as the contestants performed songs by both guest judges, but it was fun. The biggest bummer remains these sizable cuts. Once you get to the top 10 of a show, you shouldn’t be losing more than two people per show.
THE SIMPSONS: Given how Lisa has spiraled in the past, yep, she would not handle lockdown well. (Though it’s very funny/sad she broke so fast.) Maggie becoming obsessed with ranch dressing was very funny, as was Marge and Homer having to try and steal some from Flanders to get through their few days of lockdown.
I was a little worried about how the show would handle this episode—given the ongoing COVID pandemic and how recently we had our own quasi-lockdown—but it worked out well by focusing on something so temporary. (Also, an excellent choice to showcase Skinner and his mother locked at home together, because, yeah, that relationship has never been normal, and 24/7 exposure could only make them more co-dependent/likely to kill each other.)
THE EQUALIZER: I’m a little torn on this episode. I thought the stuff with Robyn and her ex worked well. (And always love to see David Fumero, even if he was playing a bad guy.) The stuff with Delilah was important. The Mel and Harry stuff felt like they had to really find a way to keep them in the episode/fill time. Alas.
FAMILY GUY: Uh, yeah, I’d fear Meg. Truly, never cross her.
