LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME Recap: Elliot, Olivia, and Amanda Team Up in ‘Shadowërk’

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Thursday, May 11 episode of LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, “Shadowërk.”]
As the official LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT and LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME crossover kicked off with the OC hour, “Shadowërk,” things got, well, complicated for Elliot (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia (Mariska Hargitay).
When the former partners went to the OCCB headquarters so she could be briefed on what the task force had on the revenge-for-hire case so far, Olivia pointed out the elephant in the room.
“You’re wearing your wedding ring again,” she noted.
“I found it in a drawer,” Elliot explained, insisting he was nothing like the victim he was filling her in on—who was still struggling in the aftermath of becoming a window. When Elliot tried to brush away her concern, Olivia insisted, “It’s called empathy.”
Elliot finally acknowledged what prompted the change: “I saw her,” he admitted. “Kathy.”
“‘K,” Olivia said. “Where?”
“Over there,” Elliot said, pointing. “Sitting down in a hospital gown, kind of like waiting to be interrogated.”
“Well, maybe she wanted to interrogate you,” Olivia tried to joke, though it was clear she was worried.
“I’m not losing my mind,” he insisted.
“Okay,” she replied. “Well, El, if there’s one thing that I’ve learned after all these years, it’s that if we don’t deal with our trauma, the world will.”
“I’m not a victim,” he quickly replied.
“But you are a survivor,” she said. “And sometimes that’s just as hard.”
Elliot pivoted back to the case and they came up with a game plan…and Olivia encouraged him to get some sleep in the meantime.
The duo did take a trip to the prison—complete with a confrontation with BX9 boss Oscar Papa (Goya Robles)—and then split up to try and take down the dark site.
To get a little bit more insight, Elliot goes to now-Professor Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) to get her take on the case. He crashed her class—and discovered she was pregnant.
“She left me a message…” Amanda trailed off.
“So you owe her a call,” Elliot said.
“Yeah,” she answered. “How can I help you?”
“We’re tracking someone who has started a revenge-for-hire factory online,” Elliot said.
“I’m intrigued,” Amanda replied. Elliot filled her in on the case so far and the duo theorized about who could be behind the site, with Amanda lighting up as she profiled the person, noting the person likely felt powerless in his own life.
“I gotta tell you, you looked way more excited here than you did in that lecture hall,” Elliot said. At Amanda’s silence, Elliot asked her how long she had been bored.
“The truth?” she asked.
“Well, you could lie to me, but I do interrogate people for a living,” he joked.
“I love the students, but I do miss the feeling of solving a good mystery,” Amanda admitted.
“Carisi know?” Elliot asked.
“That I’m bored?” Amanda questioned, while shaking her head. “It’d break his heart, he’s the one that got me the job.”
“How ‘bout Liv?” Elliot asked.
Amanda sighed. “You of all people should know how she reacts when people leave her.”
“I see your quandary,” Elliot replied. “Hell, I’ve lived your quandary.” So he proposed he help her: He’ll bring mystery into her life and she could work up a psych profile for the perp.
Later, when a judge is killed, Elliot and Olivia meet at the crime scene and he informed her there was someone else he wanted to involve in the case: “With your blessing, I think she’d be an asset.”
Amanda shows up at the crime scene—”Surprise!”—and a shocked Olivia congratulates her on the pregnancy, and she acknowledged Carisi couldn’t keep the secret.
“He’s a great lawyer, not a great witness,” Amanda joked.
“He breaks under pressure,” Olivia acknowledged.
The former colleagues awkwardly stood in silence, before Amanda said she had been meaning to call Olivia. Elliot jumped in to ease them into the case, noting that he had Rollins work up a profile of their perp.
“Surprises all around,” Olivia noted.
“Let’s get down to business,” Elliot said, as Amanda shared what she surmised about their bad guy.
