Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

THE VOICE: There were some really good and really messy things about this episode.

First of all, there were really great performances. I might have ultimately tweaked who made it to the top 5, but I don’t think there were any actual bad options.

I also appreciate that there was a short, confined burst to vote. It’s frustrating on IDOL when you have the whole show to vote, which feels like it puts later acts at a disadvantage.

That being said: Only select people got to vote, because this didn’t go live coast-to-coast. This was the first time the viewers got any say in it, as a huge percentage of the contestants were being cut before the finale. I wish there had been more time to let America get a say versus just these two weeks.

I don’t know if they’ll come back to this format next season—may depend on the strike and how desperately they need to eat extra schedule hours—but I hope they rejigger things a bit.
