LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME’s season 3 finale delivered a brutal blow to the team, as Jamie Whelan (Brent Antonello) was shot in the neck…and the bullet severed his spine.

Completely paralyzed after a life-saving surgery, Jamie made it clear to Reyes (Rick Gonzalez)—who frantically tried to save his friend in the field—he didn’t want to live. By the end of “With Many Names,” Jamie was dead. (Though the series didn’t show who assisted him, both Reyes and Whelan’s father were at the hospital in the immediate aftermath.)

With Antonello’s time with the series at an end, the actor took to social media to bid farewell to the franchise. “[J]ust want to say thank you to my amazing castmates, our incredible crew, the loyal fans of the L&O universe, our writers and producers, @nbc & @wolfentertainment,” the actor wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a fan edit. “It has been such a fun ride with you all, & your support has meant so much to me. Much love, B.”

His former co-star, Danielle Moné Truitt, also shared love for the actor on social media, posting, “Detective Whelan Forever!!!!!!! Love you @brent_antonello! Fantastic work tonight and the entire season. It was a pleasure and honor man! The best is yet to come. ❤️ #OCTaskforce.”

Though Antonello’s time on the show was short, he did get to fulfill one of his hopes for his time on the show: participating in a crossover. “I hear nothing but great things about every single one of them,” he previously shared with Give Me My Remote. “And just to be on that SVU set or that LAW & ORDER mothership set, it would be mind-blowing. Just to be a part of that universe…every actor would kill to be a part of this. It’s been such a pleasure, and I still can’t believe I get to be a part of this universe. I would say one line on the mothership or be in the background. This has been a very cool experience. I don’t take any of it for granted.”

Update (Saturday, May 20): Rick Gonzalez posted a tribute to Antonello on Instagram, filled with BTS photos and videos, writing, “When you do this as long as I have, you measure talent by the moments given by an actor in between the lines. Bravo brother @brent_antonello 👏✨ 💐 Hope we do it again.”
