GORDON RAMSAY’S FOOD STARS: (Okay, this originally aired on Wednesday, but Fox replayed the premiere last night, so it counts.)

I really enjoyed the premiere. It was absolutely fascinating how messy a number of the contestants got instantly…and it wasn’t just one person, each team had a person that seemed destined to go if they lost.

Like, it’s fair to wonder if people will want Asian fusion food at the beach—their noodles and meatballs sounded delicious, but as more of a sit-down thing, not something I’d want to indulge in on sand—but Ashley refusing to even consider it because she’s never heard of it (???) was…yikes.

And then, uh, WTF to Lan. It’s always fair to wonder if someone is getting a bad edit on a reality show, but her immediate dislike of Caroline was weird. And then on top of that, Lan absolutely screwed the team over by trying to take control and then hoarding the food tickets?! If they had lost—especially by $100 or less—the blame would have rested squarely on her shoulders. I really hope she stops sabotaging (and self-sabotaging) next week.

Sorry to Kagan, but, yeah, he deserved to go home. When the burgers are coming out raw and cold—and there’s a 40-minute wait for the food on the beach?!—there’s no coming back from that.
