EATING OUT WITH ERIC & STEVE: Steven Weber on His ‘Loose, Relaxed’ New Podcast and Which CHICAGO MED Co-Stars He’s Hoping Will Appear

Steven Weber and Eric McCormack have hundreds of film and television credits between them, but the friends have embarked on a new adventure together: the delightful podcast EATING OUT WITH ERIC & STEVE.

Sean Hayes—whose Hazy Mills Production produces several podcasts, including a GRIMM rewatch show—originally came to McCormack (AKA his WILL & GRACE co-star) and asked if he had any podcast ideas; McCormack suggested he could do something with Weber, and EATING OUT was born.

In each episode, Weber and McCormack share a meal with a couple of actors, talking about their careers, food, and life. (Several members of their CADS—AKA Character Actors Dining Society—group have already appeared on the podcast, including Alfred Molina, Noah Wyle, Bryan Cranston, Richard Kind, Rob Morrow, Tony Shalhoub, and LeVar Burton.)

“We thought that the food component would be a good hook, because it’s not a standard interview show, it’s a conversational rambling kind of a show,” Weber explains to Give Me My Remote in the video below. Outside of the chewing and other meal-related noises, “we found the atmosphere of a restaurant or a meal is very conducive to loose, relaxed talk. Nobody’s hawking a product, nobody’s trying to publicize something. It’s just friends getting together and gabbing.”

That vibe also means there’s no set format for the show. “Generally, we start off with the easiest prompts: What are you eating?” Weber explains. “And then it leads invariably into showbiz stories or theater stories. And then it goes to a different level. It finds its own path. We don’t have points we necessarily want to hit, they mostly come up organically. But, look, there are things Eric and I find interesting as friends that we’re always asking each other, and asking our other buddies, having to do with that acting world. But there’s no agenda…what we’re really looking for is that loose conversation.”
