CHICAGO FIRE: Daniel Kyri on His Upcoming 100th Episode with the Drama

When CHICAGO FIRE returns for its 12th season, star Daniel Kyri will be celebrating an important milestone: his 100th episode.

Kyri’s Darren Ritter was introduced in the season 7 episode “Going to War,” and he’s appeared in 96 episodes of the NBC drama. (Kyri also played Ritter in an episode of CHICAGO P.D.) “It is really wild to me,” Kyri tells Give Me My Remote with a laugh in the video below. “That I will have done 100 episodes of anything, let alone this amazing show that gave me this incredible opportunity…I don’t know what I’m going to do yet [to commemorate it].”

“I’m sure I’ll be surrounded by folks that I love and the real cheerleaders in my life who’ve been around during this process—[who] encouraged me and kept me really moving forward in this craft and in this world of the show,” he continues. “So I just hope that wherever I am, I get to celebrate with them.”



Though when the show returns is up in the air—the drama is currently on NBC’s fall lineup, but with the ongoing writers’ strike, an actual premiere date is still very much TBD—Kyri was clear about what he wants to see for his character next season.

“My biggest hope for Ritter is love,” he explains. Previously, Kyri had shared that he hoped to talk with the writers post-strike, “because now, more than ever, I do believe that that sort of representation and real, unflinching look at what queer love can actually be like, I think is very important. So it’s something that I have every intention of discussing with our writers, and I very much look forward to having those conversations where we can hold each other accountable to the real vision behind the character and the authenticity of our show.”

In season 12, the actor notes he’d also like to see “Gallo or Violet fielding things for Ritter and being his hype man [when it comes] to some relationship stuff,” he shares. “I just think it would be really, really exciting to get to see that side of Ritter, as well.”
