AMERICAN AUTO: Justin Spitzer Reveals the Planned Season 3 Storyline
June 16, 2023 by Marisa Roffman
With AMERICAN AUTO officially canceled, series creator Justin Spitzer revealed what the writers had planned to do next season.
“Season 3 of #americanauto was going to show Katherine Hastings and Payne Motors finally finding success and taking the world by storm,” Spitzer wrote on Twitter. “I’m so sorry we didn’t get to make those episodes, but I’m immensely proud of the 23 episodes of the show we did put out there.”
The second season of the NBC comedy ended with Katherine (Ana Gasteyer) saving her job—because the company’s stock rebounded when rumors spread she was on the way out.
“What’s so great about the opportunity is that it also allows you to play with bravado, hubris, swings, and misses,” Gasteyer told Give Me My Remote at the time. “I mean, you don’t have to look very far to see a head of a major car company who’s now gone ahead to run a different kind of company—social media—and to see how that can maybe play itself out. So, I think what’s great is that it’s that question of how big can she swing and what is she going to swing for?”
Other storylines the show planned on diving into? Wesley’s (Jon Barinholtz) controlling stake of Payne Motors and that (not small) investment in the sand-based battery Sandbox.
