FBI TRUE Exclusive Clip: Retired Agent Bill Forsyth Recalls Contending With a Suspicious Device at the 1996 Olympics
December 4, 2023 by Marisa Roffman
On the Tuesday, December 5 (brand new) episode of FBI TRUE, the docuseries explores the real-life story behind the investigation into the infamous 1996 Olympics bombing. (The events have been dramatized in the TV series MANHUNT: DEADLY GAMES, as well as the 2019 film RICHARD JEWELL.)
In an exclusive clip from “Chasing the Olympic Bomber,” retired Special Agent Bomb Tech Bill Forsyth recalls being face-to-face with an explosive device at the Olympics, unaware of how much time they had before it detonated—and surrounded by thousands of people.
And here’s what CBS officially previews of the hour: “When Special Agent Bomb Tech Bill Forsyth is called to an unattended backpack during a live concert at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he finds himself face to face with a 40-pound pipe bomb, which explodes after he quickly moves the crowd away from the scene. After several more bombings in the Atlanta area – and in Birmingham, Ala. – the FBI ultimately realizes the suspect is a deranged political extremist serial bomber and hardened survivalist. When the suspect flees into the Appalachian Mountains, one of the biggest manhunts in U.S. history ensues as the agents feel the pressure to find the bomber before other people die. Forsyth, Ron Tunkel, Chris Swecker, and Frank Brostrom sit down with FBI veteran Special Agent Kristy Kottis.”
