GHOSTS welcomed a new ghost to Woodstone Mansion on the Thursday, March 7 episode…but it wasn’t the one they were hoping for.

While everyone was hoping they could utilize Halloween to lure Flower back after she was sucked off, Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) tried to host a fabulous holiday party. Unfortunately for the duo, it was spoiled by unexpected guest Carol (Caroline Aaron), Pete’s ex-wife, who was mistakenly invited to the shindig. And while she brought some donut holes for the occasion, she promptly choked to death on one, becoming a ghost herself.

And though that remained unresolved, things didn’t go as well in the attempt to resurrect Flower (Sheila Carrasco). After two separate seances, the ghosts—as well as Sam and Jay—were baffled that she didn’t return.

A grief-stricken Thor (Devan Chandler Long) yelled out for Flower…who is currently stuck in a well. It turns out, she actually never got sucked off and has been trapped there this entire time.

Earlier in the season, co-showrunner Joe Port slyly acknowledged the writers had considered other options for Carrasco’s real-life maternity leave. “She was going to be out at the very beginning of shooting,” he told Give Me My Remote at the time. “So that did present a challenge, obviously. And it was going to be hard to explain why there would be more than one ghost gone for prolonged periods…But we did go down paths of like, ‘Oh, she is not there for some other reason while somebody else is sucked off?’ But ultimately we just thought this made the most sense. And it did lead to a lot…it’s a very twisty, turny season and it’s got a lot of surprises. And I think it’s going to be interesting for people to watch.”

What did you think of the Halloween twists?
