LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT Recap: Did Olivia Reunite with Maria?

[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Thursday, March 14 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.]

Olivia’s (Mariska Hargitay) therapy led her to reunite with Maria Recinos (Dani Montalvo) on the Thursday, March 14 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.

As Olivia underwent therapy, she recalled the case…and acknowledged the trauma she was feeling while thinking about it.

“I was on the phone with Maria through the worst night of her life,” Olivia told her therapist.

When she acknowledged she didn’t know what happened to her, the therapist pointed out she was NYPD—she could find her again.

Olivia’s research led her to the NYPD cadet class for 2024, where Maria was graduating. Olivia watched her from afar, but before she could talk to her, Fin (Ice T) called with a case.

As Olivia contemplated what to do, she and Fin talked about their case—as a victim of abuse targeted abusers—and Olivia noted it was difficult when a parent is unpredictable, “trying to navigate and living in a limbo like that, trying to calculate the probability of doom.”

But Fin called his friend out. “This is all about you,” he said. “This is something I never thought I’d say out loud, but you’re scared.”

He (correctly) acknowledged she was running the probabilities over in her mind about what could go wrong (or right) with a reunion with Maria—what if the moment didn’t mean as much to the young girl? Olivia, reluctantly, admitted he was right.

Olivia ended the hour by going to Maria’s home. At first, Maria was silent when presented with an article about her abduction, but she quickly pulled Olivia in for a hug and invited her into her home.
