Couch Madness Round 2: ‘Ashes to Ashes’ (Group 1)
March 18, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
In honor of the NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is bringing back our TV-centric bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes to fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)
The seeding is simple: rather than quality of the hour, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.
We’re now up to the second round, which will kick off on Monday, March 18 and end on Friday, March 22. The final face-off will start on Monday, March 25.
Next up? “Ashes to Ashes.” And with this title we’re doing something different: There are enough shows for two separate brackets. So keep reading for the first bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the poll. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!)
DROP DEAD DIVA (8): “Jane and Grayson represent a woman who is suing for custody of her late fiancé’s ashes. And just as Jane starts to accept his disappearance, Owen suddenly returns.”
vs.
STAR TREK: VOYAGER (4): “Voyager receives a former crewman, deceased, resurrected, genetically altered, unrecognizable, and glad to be “home.” Meanwhile, looking after the Borg children exasperates Seven of Nine.”
BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 (3): “Brandon befriends a black family, the Ashes, which stirs up Beverly Hills when they move in near the Walshes. The siblings include Robby, a freshman photographer who volunteers to work at the Blaze, and his older sister whose boyfriend is roughed up by a racist security patrol. Meanwhile, Jim and Cindy try out a new “state of the art” house alarm system which is more of a nuisance than a help.”
vs.
REAPER (7): “Ben’s mother and grandmother stop by the Work Bench for some supplies for their family reunion. However, things go sour when his grandmother accuses Sam of being evil and calls him Diablo, the Spanish word for devil. Meanwhile, Sam meets a mysterious woman named Mimi, who claims to have been the Devil’s girlfriend for over 20 years, and he wonders whether her daughter is the Devil’s daughter or not.”
