April 1, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
For the past few weeks, Give Me My Remote launched our own kind of bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other in what we dubbed Couch Madness. (Credit for the excellent name goes to fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)
And now, we have our winners! Keep reading for your choices for the best “Payback,” “No Way Out,” “Ashes to Ashes,” and “Bombshell.” (You can also check out all the previous brackets here.)
“Payback” (Group 1) winner:LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (3): “Stabler and Benson investigate the murder and castration of a New York cab driver. They discover that the victim had assumed the identity of another man because he himself was wanted by police.”
“Payback” (Group 2) winner: FBI (6): “The son of a retired FBI agent is kidnapped, and the team must investigate if it’s an act of revenge; Isobel must make a hard call when information from the past comes to light.”
“No Way Out” winner: MAGNUM P.I. (6): “As Magnum, Higgins and TC try to pull one over on a customs agent to get Higgins a green card, armed gunmen suddenly storm the federal building and start taking hostages.”
“Ashes to Ashes” (Group 1) winner: BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 (3): “Brandon befriends a black family, the Ashes, which stirs up Beverly Hills when they move in near the Walshes. The siblings include Robby, a freshman photographer who volunteers to work at the Blaze, and his older sister whose boyfriend is roughed up by a racist security patrol. Meanwhile, Jim and Cindy try out a new “state of the art” house alarm system which is more of a nuisance than a help.”
“Ashes to Ashes” (Group 2) winner: MAGNUM P.I. (8): “Magnum and Higgins reexamine a fatal arson investigation at the request of TC and Mahina, leading to a sinister discovery. Kumu volunteers with Rick at a veterans’ crisis call center.”
“Bombshell” winner: LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (5): “After the CEO of a weapons company is stabbed in the groin in a parking garage, Benson and Stabler are forced to go undercover in a modern-day swingers club to get information about the possible suspects.”
