About Last Night…THE SIMPSONS, AMERICAN IDOL, and THE GREAT NORTH
April 8, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!
THE SIMPSONS: The show had one of the best episodes about forming a union more than 31 (!) years ago, and this was a really worthy follow-up. What the series showcased then made sense (and is a classic; witnessing it influence a SIMPSONS-themed picket last year was incredible), but times have changed…and gig workers are largely being exploited. I love that Marge got to be so proactive in trying to protect herself and her colleagues. Of course, there was immediate retaliation—which is expected in the real world, too, unfortunately—but I’m actually really thrilled she was the one this story centered around. (I also truly wonder how many THE SIMPSONS viewers just learned about ghost kitchens from this episode.) A really solid episode.
AMERICAN IDOL: Man, it’s a bummer so many contestants did not seem to realize one of the most important things about competing on a show like this: Liking or wanting to perform a song is not a good enough reason to actually select it if you’re hoping to win votes from a large audience to move on. It really has to suit your voice, more than anything.
My top performances of the night? Will Moseley’s “Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay” and McKenna Breinholt’s “The Story.”
THE GREAT NORTH: Oh, Beef was briefly so happy when he was prepping to ask Carissa to be his girlfriend! And so perfectly him to try and deal with his jealousy by, uh, focusing on a bear. A cute episode.
