[Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Thursday, April 18 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.]

After many twists and turns on the Thursday, April 18 episode of LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT—including a tainted initial jury, George Brouchard (Patrick Carroll) opting to represent himself, and Maddie’s mom, Eileen (Leslie Fray), attempting to bait Brouchard (and then threatening to kill him)—Carisi (Peter Scanavino) got a win for kidnapped teen Maddie (Allison Elaine): Brouchard was found guilty on all charges.

“Every win is a bit more confidence for him,” Scanavino tells Give Me My Remote. “There’s been so much energy and emotion put into this particular case, I think [it] would have been devastating to everybody in the squad to have this one slip away. Not to mention just how awful would it be for such a sick individual to go free. So I think it’s a great relief.”

But given how off-the-rails things were, “it’s almost solemn that it got so close,” Scanavino acknowledges. “That it almost slipped away, it’s kind of scary.”

“Combat Fatigue” also allowed the actor time in the courtroom—the hour was directed by Michael Smith, who also helmed the court-heavy “People vs Richard Wheatley”—and brought the characters to the judge’s chambers…something Scanavino cited as one of his favorite moments of the hour.

“There’s a lot of great scenes in the episode, but one of my favorite ones was just the scene inside the judge’s chambers with Ami Brabson [who plays Judge Karyn Blake], because she’s been the judge on the show so many times, but rarely have we gotten to have scenes outside of the courtroom,” Scanavino shares. “And I always think it’s interesting to see where the judge goes afterwards and the other parts of the courtroom.”

“So I thought that was interesting,” he continues. “And it’s something that I’ve never really done before—you have all the characters in the inner chambers. So I thought that was fun!”
