CHICAGO P.D.: Gwen Sigan Previews an ‘Emotional Ride’ in the Season 11 Finale

With CHICAGO P.D.’s Voight (Jason Beghe) missing—and presumably being tortured by a notorious serial killer—the characters “are not dealing very well” in the finale (airing Wednesday, May 22 at 10/9c), CHICAGO P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan previews to Give Me My Remote with a laugh.

“The team is definitely going through the wringer in this episode,” she teases. “It is a ride. It’s an emotional ride for all of them, especially for Upton, especially for Voight.”

As Intelligence desperately tries to find their boss, “we really see them up against it here and get to some interesting epiphanies along the way,” Sigan notes.

The hour also marks the final episode for longtime CHICAGO P.D. star Tracy Spiridakos, whose exit was announced last year.

Prior to the season starting, Sigan shared with GMMR that having Spiridakos for the entirety of season 11 would allow the writers to “tell a really nice story for her.”“What we really want to concentrate on is that sort of emotional ride for [Upton] of when your life doesn’t turn out how you thought it would,” she said at the time. “And then you’re hit with struggle, when you’re hit with some sort of adversity, it brings up a lot for her that she’s maybe denied or hasn’t looked at from years past—even from her childhood. And so it brings up a lot and she’s got to make her way through and confront it to get to a better side at the other end. It’s really a story of growth and transition and new possibilities for Hailey Upton.”
