Ray (Edwin Hodge) and Cora (Caroline Harris) tied the knot on the Tuesday, May 21 season 5 finale of FBI: MOST WANTED. (Oh, and the Fugitive Task Force stopped a dirty bomb from taking out Manhattan.)

Here, Hodge talks with Give Me My Remote about getting to end the season with a joyful occasion, how marriage may change Ray, and more…

In the TV world, you never really know if an engagement will actually lead to a marriage. At what point did you find out Ray would actually be tying the knot?
There was always potential for it. I think even in the process of creating these episodes, week by week, whatever it may be, the writers-producers, they’re back there intricately trying to figure out what’s the best direction for the characters and then ultimately the show. So there was some note in there that he might be getting married. But the emphasis really wasn’t placed on it until probably halfway through the season. And when they were like, “This is definitely gonna happen.” And it was like, “Oh, okay, we’re there yet? They’re definitely getting married? Okay, cool. I just want to make sure.” It’s a very short engagement. [Laughs.] We went on a date, and I was like [Joking], “You! You’re mine. Let’s do it!” [Laughs.] There was a lot of prep going into it and definitely it’s gonna lead to some interesting situations next season, of course.

Ray is now a husband and a stepfather. What does having those layers to him mean for you as an actor and what do you think that will bring to him as a character going forward?
A lot of depth, for sure. In general, he’s dedicated to his job. It’s what built him to be who he is. And now he’s taken a step out to expand himself even more by becoming a father and a husband—the responsibilities of that, a lot of times, do trump the job. But there’s gonna be situations where he’s gonna have to pick the job over the family. Or maybe there’s gonna be a situation where he picks the family over the job. We don’t know yet. But I love the idea of just kind of playing with the complexities of marriage, one, and then also, two, being married to someone who may not come home; being married to someone who may have to give a little grace to because he might not be mentally fit to deal with the family home lifestyle. It’s new to him. There’s so many different directions we can play with the development of this relationship. And I’m probably just as curious as the audience is.

He has two teammates who are parents and have also juggled relationships with work. What is he learning about that balance from what he’s observed from his teammates?
That’s interesting. As you asked that question [I realized] I don’t think we’ve actually really played on that for Ray. Ray has very much kind of been in his own world when it comes to his family…there’s not a lot of family talk for Ray. But, yeah, I think in general, in these type of situations that he would lean on someone for some type of support and advice, if things do go awry, I think that’s what you do in general, in your life: you lean on the people who actually have knowledge and experience in certain aspects of life that you don’t. So I would hope that he’s not ignorant to the fact that he doesn’t know everything, that he’s gonna need help. And that when he finds himself in those moments, that he actually seeks help.

What was it actually like filming the wedding and reception?
[Joking.] Long! [Seriously.] It was fun, though. Honestly, it was a lot of fun just shooting the breeze, in a sense, with the cast: We’re all dressed up, looking fine and everything. Sitting in a moment that we really, really haven’t sat in on on the show, which is just family and life and love and celebration and community. We really haven’t shown that. It is there, within the members, we have that for sure. But outside of that, it was nice to kind of bring that to light with this wedding. But we got the Second Line, which is homage to who they are, since they’re both from New Orleans. That was a fun scene to shoot in the middle of New York streets. It’s nice to bring levity, lightness to a show that is just steeped in darkness and crime and murder.

And his wedding, somehow, served as a date night for two couples, too. What did he think of those plus-ones?
It’s one of acceptance because of who his friends are, his teammates are, that he’s, “Hey, go ahead and bring them.” But if you notice from the last episode, it was more Cora inviting the guests. I’m not really sure I had a say in who could come or not. It just happened. It just kind of happened. And they were there. And I just had to accept that! I think that’s what that is. [Laughs.]
