Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!

BEAT SHAZAM: Oh my God, that “Bartender” miss is going to kill them…they were so close to winning it all! But what a great game.

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: This was one of my favorite premieres the show has ever done. And a really varied group of incredible acts, too.

Learnmore Jonasi obviously had a feel-good backstory—and his obsession with Terry Crews was charming—but he was also genuinely funny. And then he got the Golden Buzzer (from Crews!), and, man, I was happy for him. It feels like he can go far in the show.

I was also an emotional mess over Richard Goodall. Logically, I knew he wasn’t going to be bad (you don’t end the show on a bad audition), but the double whammy of him being so good and so overwhelmed just destroyed me. I hope this changes his life. I’m definitely not surprised he got a Golden Buzzer, too, but I was kind of surprised it came from Heidi.

Other notable acts I’m keeping my eye on: dancer Ashlee Montague was fearless and I’m curious if she has to elevate her act now; magician Sam Huang was freaky and good; country singer Reyna Roberts has real breakout potential.

THE QUIZ WITH BALLS: Well, the only question I 100000% knew the answer to was the Spice Girls’ last names. (Okay, and I was 95% sure about the “smaller than Texas” question.)

I say this frequently, but when the premiere doesn’t open with a big win, it makes me a little wary about what’s to come. It’s possible the game being close, elsewhere, was considered more compelling and therefore a better example of what the show could be. But it also feels like, in a bad game, one team could be knocked out really fast (after three rounds), and then what happens to the rest of the hour? Especially if the other team knows the answer to the final question and there’s no hesitation? I’ll watch more, but I’m not entirely sold yet.

(Did this just make me miss HOLEY MOLEY, especially after seeing they share an EP? Yes, it did.)

PASSWORD: Joel McHale getting Kardashian as a clue? Hahahaha.

Man, important was a hard clue for the final round, but I’m not sure what else could have been said to make it more clear. (My best hint would have been very and then person in the hopes they figured it out from VIP.)
