AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Watch the Golden Buzzer Acts That Shook Up Season 19

When AMERICA’S GOT TALENT season 19 kicked off on Tuesday, May 28, the series debuted a new twist—each judge got two Golden Buzzers. But on the June 4 episode, it was revealed that wasn’t always intended to be the case.

Early in the episode, Simon Cowell gave his Golden Buzzer to the incredible singer Liv Warfield. “It was like being, in a good way, punched in the face by your energy, the band, all of these years of frustration,” he explained to her, before telling her he couldn’t give her a yes…he was giving her a Golden Buzzer push.

But then the episode closed out with the drone act, Sky Elements. The judges were clearly blown away and the crowd agreed—chanting for the judges to give them a Golden Buzzer.

“Whether you’re three years old, whether you’re 100 years old, I think you’re going to absolutely love that audition,” Cowell praised. He gave the group a bravo as the crowd chanted “Golden Buzzer.”

“You know we keep talking about the rules? There is no rulebook, which means I’m going to do this: liftoff,” Cowell said before pressing the Golden Buzzer—again.

But when Howie Mandel pointed out he already used his Golden Buzzer, the other judges asked what was going on. Cowell, for his part, explained to an executive producer, “I just thought, why not?” The EP explained there actually was a rule they only got one push…and a compromise was made that everyone would get two Golden Buzzers.

“New season, new rules,” Mandel joked, before Sofia Vergara and Heidi Klum joked they actually needed three buzzers.
