BRILLIANT MINDS: Steve Howey, André De Shields, and Mandy Patinkin to Guest Star

André De Shields, Steve Howey, and Mandy Patinkin will guest star in the first season of BRILLIANT MINDS, showrunner Michael Grassi announced during the show’s Television Critics Association panel.

“Our guest stars are so good,” Grassi told reporters, heaping praise on the casting directors who made it possible. “When you’re doing a show where you’re bringing in people each week, I’m grateful to our casting directors.”

De Shields appears in the pilot as an Alzheimer’s patient whom Dr. Wolf (Zachary Quinto) takes outside of the hospital in an attempt to help him.

Howey, who is best known for SHAMELESS, plays “a member of a biker gang who comes to Dr. Wolf for help and treatment,” Grassi teased. “It’s Steve Howey the way we’ve never seen him.” According to an official tease, “As the severity of his condition is uncovered, he is forced to make a heartbreaking decision. A decision that will forever change his life and the lives of his loved ones.”

As for Patinkin, “He’s playing a family doctor who is 24-hours on call for his patients,” Grassi previewed. Patinkin will guest star in two episodes: “He comes to Bronx General and really shakes up our world.” Per an official tease, “Bringing his own unconventional methods to the workplace, his affinity for house calls and long-standing patient relationships wins the respect of our lead, Dr. Wolf, and fosters a mentor-like relationship between the two men.”

The series—which is loosely inspired by the life of Oliver Sacks—also stars Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Teddy Sears, and Donna Murphy.
