About Last Night…LOVE ISLAND USA, NAME THAT TUNE, and THE 1% CLUB

Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

(Okay, the best thing I saw on TV last night was Teoscar Hernández winning the Home Run Derby.)

LOVE ISLAND USA: I would feel kind of bad for Daniela, but her actions in Casa didn’t exactly set her up for a smooth time in the Villa. She set her sights on a guy who was “happily” coupled up (this is not removing Aaron’s responsibility in the matter, to be clear), and then when he decided to stay with his couple, moved to his best friend there. We saw how Rob reacted to seeing her claims of being into him from the start may not have been true.

It was super weird to have Maura Higgins there and then have the narrator doing most of the results for the Heart Rate challenge. What the heck kind of production choice was that? (And will the results even matter if it’s instantly followed by eliminations?)

I’m very curious to see what they do with the elimination now. If the couples get to keep one duo, I assume it will be Aaron and Kaylor. (Unless the couples view them as a threat to their game/winning it all.) Will another couple be saved by the fan vote? I know we’re at the point where we really need to start eliminating couples, but then stop bringing in bombshells.

NAME THAT TUNE: Ugh, a bummer of an episode. Both games were solid, but it stinks both final contestants got bounced from the final round pretty early by misnaming a song.

THE 1% CLUB: Here’s the thing: I like Patton Oswalt as host, but it’s really distracting as a home viewer trying to play along when he’s cracking jokes to fill the quiet as the contestants are trying to figure things out. Sometimes it’s not terrible, but when you have a math question? Maybe stop with the jokes.

Also, absolutely brutal that the final two contestants had the answer combined, but neither got the full thing right. I got it, but, man, a bummer they couldn’t split the pot.
