Let’s talk about Sunday night’s TV!

LOVE ISLAND USA: If you told me three weeks ago who the winners would be, I would have laughed so hard. I’m happy for Serena and Kordell, but, man, they overcame a lot.

I am fascinated by the production of everything—based on the episode itself, I would have guessed the top 2 would have been Serena/Kordell and JaNa/Kenny. Of those final dates, those were personalized, actually loving, and a true tribute to what has been and what could be. Miguel/Leah and Nicole/Kendall had…adventures. Lovely adventures! But zero personalized touch.

(I didn’t love how Kendall handled the “I love you” situation after Nicole didn’t say it back—by doubling down in front of everyone in the finale speech and putting her on the spot versus actually giving her time—but he got his ILY back, so…I’m sure he’s happy with how it went down.)

I am excited about the reunion special, though, because this season was a whole lot of mess and I’m very curious what their lives look like in a month/who is still together.

BIG BROTHER: Matt quasi-threatening Angela? Okay then. That…was a choice. I’m kind of shocked she didn’t immediately put him up for that because it would have been deserved.

I’m not sure how I feel about some of these twists, though. I think the three nominations change makes the game genuinely more exciting—we did see so much of the house voting together in the past that it made things a lot less suspenseful and didn’t tip people’s hands to their real alliances/loyalties, frequently.

That being said, I’ll be blunt: The deep fake HOH worries me on a real-world level, not even a gameplay one. Like, gameplay, it feels like it’s doing too much; it’s one thing to control the noms, it’s another to have them, essentially, potentially cause mayhem “as” the HOH. But on a human level? There was a whole freaking strike last year that was partially about the dangers of letting companies control your digital images. Obviously, these players would have signed away their rights, but…sigh. I guess we’ll see how it goes.
