Nearly 25 years after Christopher Meloni made his LAW & ORDER franchise debut (on SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT), he’s taking on a new role in the universe: Writer.

The LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME star will write an episode of the upcoming fifth season, Meloni told People.

“It is awesome,” he told the outlet. “But it’s responsibility, so I don’t want to mess it up.”

Though details about the hour are still on the DL, he did hint that the episode would include his longtime on-screen SVU partner Mariska Hargitay. “I know [Olivia] Benson will be with OC for a moment there,” he said. “I’m going to have an opportunity to…Hopefully, uncover, peel away a little bit more of the onion or uncover a little more depth of feeling between them.”

While many actors step behind the camera (Meloni previously directed his past shows HAPPY! and UNDERGROUND), it’s far more rare for them to pen an installment of their series.

The move comes as ORGANIZED CRIME is breaking other ground for the LAW & ORDER franchise—the upcoming move to Peacock for the 2024-25 season makes it the first L&O series to be a streaming exclusive.

LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME, Thursdays, 10/9c, NBC
