JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE: Guest Host Jeff Goldblum Helps Actors Get SAG-AFTRA Health Insurance
August 16, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
Last month, JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE put out a casting notice with a simple purpose: The show wanted to help SAG-AFTRA actors who were a role away from qualifying for the union’s health insurance by potentially casting them on the late-night show.
The series had done this before (with guest host Kerry Washington in 2022), but this time it came in the aftermath of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which lasted for more than six months in 2023…making it difficult for many performers (and writers) to get their qualifying credits. (And with production slow to start back up, many in the industry are still struggling.)
On the Thursday, August 15 episode of JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, the sketch was revealed. Guest host Jeff Goldblum noted in his monologue that “the vast majority of actors are working-class people, just trying to make ends meet,” and it was sometimes difficult to get health insurance. So what did the show do? Well, it cast a whole bunch of Jeff Goldblums.
Watch the hysterical sketch now…
