Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!

LOVE ISLAND USA: Here’s the thing: I absolutely respect and agree that fans/viewers/people should be kinder to the real humans behind this show. The quasi-problem is the reunion itself didn’t prioritize that.

I don’t watch a lot of reality shows that have reunions like this, but Ariana Madix seemed entirely over her head hosting/moderating this conversation. To be clear, moderating anything is difficult, especially when you have so many people involved, so many blindsides, and such high emotions. But there’s also a huge difference between stepping back to let the panelists guide the conversation and being so far removed that it’s chaos. There were multiple times it was absolute chaos, in an unproductive and harmful way, where it really would have been beneficial to have someone actually in charge and maybe minimize the damage being done.

As for what happened…Aaron is a whole other level of not okay. You know you’re going to hurt someone you claim to care about, and you decide the best way to do that is in front of cameras/your friends?! I deeply sympathize with his loss, and, yeah, Kaylor probably shouldn’t have bashed him on a podcast in the immediate aftermath of a death in his family, but that doesn’t excuse this at all.

The Nicole and Kendall situation is so messy, and also one that really shouldn’t have been dissected the way it was there. Kendall had a horrific privacy violation and he is the victim of a terrible, inexcusable crime. That also doesn’t excuse him lying about it to Nicole; it was deeply unfair that most of the panelists were expecting her to just roll over about that. This is honestly where it was most glaring that they needed Ariana to step in—because this isn’t the Aaron-Kaylor devastating, but still ultimately quasi-frivolous fight, this is a level of real, true problems (that have wide-reaching consequences)—and yet it really fell to JaNa, multiple times, to try and see where Nicole stood with everything and if Kendall’s lie was a breaking point for her.

(Also, JaNa is a freaking queen with those receipts.)

NAME THAT TUNE: I would have absolutely destroyed Dani’s final round. Sigh.

And, look, I’m so glad we don’t have the celebrity version of this show. But, um, Karla and Andrew had one of the worst civilian games we’ve seen so far. And she had an awful final round. In many ways, it’s a lot worse when the games are bad, because this is life-changing money they’re playing for.

THE 1% CLUB: Oh, this episode was a mess. I thought it was bad when the 60% question was difficult, but I got it—and then it got even more insane. And HOW is SE sophomore?! I figured out the pattern, but I thought that was supposed to be SEnior and therefore the missing thing would be for sophomore.

And “SWEETNESS” for the final answer?! Oh, it was mess.

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET: Hey, this show is really good. It’s not feasible, but I just want to binge it all. (Case in point, I only got to one episode instead of the planned two.)

Watching a Jordan or Pippin debate in 2024 is wild. Way more of a valid comparison back in ’93. And, hey, we’re back to the Lincoln assassination talk.

At first, I was amused by Luis Guzmán building a coffin in his home, but then of course it took a tragic twist. Poor Bolander, he lost his new possible friend and the case interrupted his long-awaited date.

I love the continuity of bringing back Lee Tergesen as Chris, Crosetti’s almost-son, but, ow to the heartbreak of him being shot and Crosetti being desperate to find who did it.

Also: WIFE-AUNT?!
