AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Which (Unexpected) Act Got Simon Cowell’s Live Show Golden Buzzer?

With Simon Cowell (officially) in control of the final Golden Buzzer on the Tuesday, September 3 episode of AMERICA’S GOT TALENT, he made it clear he was also going to keep another vote in mind: The audience.

Though Cowell was critical of many early acts—including buzzing one—acrobatic duo Sebastián and Sonia came into the night with the odds already stacked against them: Sonia injured herself during rehearsal and couldn’t perform this week. Sebastián would continue on…but he had to entirely overhaul the act to now be a solo number.

Set to Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood” (whose lyrics include “Sometimes I feel like giving up/But I just can’t/It isn’t in my blood”), Sebastián performed an incredible routine, much to the crowd and Cowell’s delight. (Sonia was watching it all unfold with host Terry Crews backstage.)

“This was by far, the best reaction we’ve had so far,” Cowell noted before hitting his Golden Buzzer.

After, with golden confetti surrounding them, Sebastián and Sonia were clearly overwhelmed by the vote of confidence.

“I only had three days to create this act,” Sebastián shared.

“That is the definition of courage,” Cowell noted. “You don’t give up.”
