BIG BROTHER and HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET

Let’s talk about Thursday night’s TV!

BIG BROTHER: It feels like keeping Kimo safe was quite literally only helpful to T’Kor—they are clearly ride-or-die and have navigated every imploding alliance. And now if T’Kor or Kimo make it to the end, there’s an automatic vote for them.

It’ll be interesting to see how things change now that the AI Arena is over/we’re back to two nominees, though.

(Also: Why the heck did no one check on Rubina, who was struggling to breathe for much of this live show, post-winning safety?!)

HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET:

“Cradle to Grave”: Oy. I thought Frank might be backed into a corner, but I didn’t see him getting this betrayed and screwed over. There was really no right move, and I’m not surprised at all that it led to Frank just quitting. Died a little bit, in a good way, when Tim told Frank he was his best friend. If you told the Tim we met in the pilot that was the case, he’d fall over.

(I know I watch too much SVU because Tim saying he didn’t remember what his cousin did raised a huge red flag in my brain. I’m sure it wasn’t meant that way, but…)

“Partners”: Speaking of SVU…what a gutting mess Megan got into with her former partner and his wife. I’m glad she realized what was going on—and didn’t try to excuse or cover up the abusive behavior—but it still was an absolute tragedy the wife was hospitalized and then likely had her entire life destroyed (or at least turned upside down) because she shot her husband in self-defense.

Cannot tell you how hard I laughed at Munch’s excuse for people not coming to the bar opening: “Probably home watching THE X-FILES.” (Extra funny given Munch appears on THE X-FILES a few years later.)

“The City That Bleeds”: Good lord, the title proved accurate before the opening credits kicked off. Help?!

As horrifying as the opening moments were, it was equally effective/chilling seeing the cops back at the precinct unaware of what was going on and how much everything had changed. In some ways, it feels like it might be different in 2024, but there still would have been a delay and separation. But ow.

When I saw Gloria Reuben’s name in the credits, I chuckled given how much of the episode could have been set at/around the hospital (ER forever), but it was even better seeing her as a Sex Crimes officer partnered with Frank. I do hope we get to see more of this dynamic.

Also: Congrats to Beau, though, because who knew the most uncomfortable part of being shot could be the moment when his estranged wife and his ex-fling were together in the same room?

Please enjoy this literal end-of-episode note I took: “A cliffhanger?!??! Why did I do this to myself?”
