About Last Night…HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
HOMICIDE: LIFE ON THE STREET:
“Law & Disorder”: I feel duped! I knew there had been LAW & ORDER crossovers (or maybe crossover?), so I figured this was one. But it was just the scene at the start…I would have, uh, preferred other L&Overse characters, but it’s always fun to see Frank interact with strangers.
And, hey, Frank working with known entities doesn’t always go well, either. Loved seeing him have to work with Lewis, even though it was absolutely painful for both men. It’s also fascinating to see that dynamic juxtaposed between Tim and Frank, who have (to me) hands down the best dynamic on the show. Even when Tim was struggling over whether a cop had gone down the path of trying to get vigilante justice and Frank didn’t see things the same way, there’s still a counterbalance there that works.
Also loved seeing Munch’s mishap with his photographer ex play out in real time versus hearing it as a story on SVU. I had forgotten about that, so I was also wondering why the heck they were all laughing at him…until someone mentioned the gallery across the street. Oh boy. (And props to SVU for utilizing HOMICIDE’s history.)
(Laughed out loud at the woman who shot her boyfriend and kept the body in the freezer…and casually was still storing food in there, too. Nope, not coming to dinner, thanks!)
“The Old and the Dead”: After Beau really struggled with returning to work post-shooting in the last episode, I was really curious to see how Stan and Kay’s return went. The best part, by far, was Stan getting each of them a little patron saint of policemen. (Given the breaks they’ve had this season, they need it.)
Stan’s depression, honestly, made a lot of sense to me. When you’re that close to death—and in his case, he also briefly lost his memory/his brain was impacted—it has to make you reconsider a lot. They had just lost Crosetti a few months back, and, as Stan noted, he at least had things to leave people. Stan felt like he had nothing. That has to mess you up and make you reconsider a lot.
Megan’s cousin was Tim Russert?! But…yikes to her being offered the captain job over Al. Good for a woman being in charge, obviously, but…we’ll see how this goes.
(Every time they bring up Adena, my heart breaks and gets happy. LOVE continuity and the show trusting the audience will get it.)
