CHICAGO P.D.: Gwen Sigan Previews Diving into the Burzek Family Unit and an Upcoming Wedding
September 16, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
CHICAGO P.D.’s Burzek—AKA Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Burgess (Marina Squerciati)—will finally be heading to the chapel in season 12…but the writers will first be showcasing a bit more of their relationship.
“It’s been fun—you’re definitely going to see them together and see that family unit,” CHICAGO P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan tells Give Me My Remote. (The engaged duo also share a daughter, Makayla.) “[We] see how they’re supporting each other, and what it looks like now. They’ve made this choice to be together. And for us, as writers, I think it’s a fun challenge and something new to be like, we don’t want there to be conflict within that relationship as far as the usual, oh, will they/won’t they? Or, ’Is something gonna happen? Are they gonna have to break up again?’ We don’t want to do any of that.”
Instead, after years of turmoil, “we want to see that it’s an authentic couple that has fought hard to get here, and now they’re here,” Sigan previews. “They can have independent lives, but then always come back together and have that foundation, together, and they deal with things happening and issues as a unit now. And, of course, there will be struggle and work within that, but to play it as realistically as we can [as you’d expect in a] sort of marriage and a long-term relationship. So we will get to see them together quite a bit, and we will get to see how they deal with the life struggles that come up just from being a human and being a cop, and how they always can come back together.”
As for when the duo will have their big day, fans will have to wait until 2025. “It’s definitely in the latter end of the season, so don’t get your hopes up that it’s coming tomorrow,” Sigan says with a laugh. “But it’s been fun to brainstorm what it’s gonna look like for the two characters and what they would really want out of a wedding. It’s so different for our show; we don’t get to do that sort of stuff often, so it’ll be fun.”
But will the wedding include any friends from the larger ONE CHICAGO universe? “That’s a great question,” Sigan says. “I mean, it will probably be contained to the CPD world. But you never know. To be determined.”
There is one bit of good news in the immediate future, though. “We also will see a promotion this season,” Sigan teases of what’s in store for Intelligence. “So that’s exciting…it’s actually episode 6. You’ll get to see a promotion for one of our members.”

I don’t want Adam and Kim together romantically anymore they’re
romance between them wasn’t exciting to see it was too
much back and forth between them even Adam said so this back
and forth between thing wasn’t too good and plus the horrible way that Kim Burguess had treated him the way she treated him wasn’t love at all Adam deserves better than Kim. I know you writers won’t break them up and of course you all said that before in which you did but Adam deserves better than Kim Burgess, I still don’t believe that Kim truly loves Adam and this is one of her games that’s she plays with him like she has before. And she’ll do it again.
