CHICAGO FIRE: Andrea Newman Teases a ‘Roller Coaster’ for Violet and Carver

When CHICAGO FIRE returns on Wednesday, September 25 (at 9/8c), there will be disasters, a new boss, and familial drama. And, of course, a gaggle of steamy relationships.

“I would say it’s a character-heavy season, for sure, in terms of relationships,” Andrea Newman tells Give Me My Remote.

While longtime couple Stellaride has to contend with his newly-discovered half-brother—and a decision about whether to have a baby—it’s Violet (Hanako Greensmith) and Carver (Jake Lockett), whose relationship status is ambiguous (at best), who are most dramatic when season 13 kicks off.

“Carver and Violet, right from the get-go, are on quite a roller coaster,” Newman teases. “They were kind of at a precipice at the end of last season, and they start with high drama between them.”

Newman points to the theme of the season—“shadows and hauntings”—as a core issue the duo will have to face. 

“I feel like it’s Violet kind of working out all of the shadows that she has, from Hawkins [and his death] to her relationship with Carver already,” she says. “What’s going on between them? [And] he’s got his shadows from his past. His family background is pretty tortured, and he’s bringing that to the beginning of the season because he’s just come back from a trip home. So there’s a lot of drama and soapy stuff between the two of them at the beginning.”
