CHICAGO FIRE Season 13 Premiere Recap: Stellaride Makes a Big Decision

CHICAGO FIRE’s Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) are officially putting their plans to have kids on hold.
Severide brought it up in the season 12 finale—before Boden left and Severide discovered Damon is his half-brother. But he also acknowledged to his wife that their starting a family would impact her significantly more than it would impact him.
In the season 13 premiere, Kidd admitted their discussion had thrown her. “Ever since we even started talking about having kids, every call with a child just fills me with…dread, I guess is the word,” she told Severide. “You think that feeling ever goes away?”
Severide admitted he was probably the wrong person to ask: “You’d have to ask one of the guys with kids.”
“I wish I could just snap my fingers and feel ready,” Kidd admitted. “I just don’t. Yet. And I’m sorry about that.”
But, thankfully, Severide was supportive of her decision. “You don’t have to apologize,” he insisted. “Told you.”
Things might not entirely be in the clear for the couple, though: New chief Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) pointed out to Severide that family shouldn’t be working together—and he assumed Kidd not taking his name meant the fact the duo was married slide under the radar. Pascal acknowledged the two seemed to have found a way to make it work—but he’d be keeping an eye on them.
