About Last Night…THE VOICE and BRILLIANT MINDS
October 8, 2024 by Marisa Roffman
Let’s talk about Monday night’s TV!
THE VOICE: I know we’re getting a different experience than the contestants are, but, man, they were debating so loud while Edward was singing. I kept thinking it was so distracting; I hope he didn’t hear them.
But this season is also genuinely funny. “You guys seem so much nicer on TV” was a great line from Michael Bublé. As was Snoop getting fake indignant about his team’s lineup being outed.
I think Jaylen Dunham is very talented—and I’m glad he’s on the show—but it also feels like this is the exact opposite of what the series is supposed to be. His sound is incredible, especially for his age—and, again, he’s SO talented and they should have turned to begin with—but if you only want him because you realize he’s a kid with that voice, it defeats the purpose of what is supposed to be a Blind Audition. This Coach Replay option is the first real change that feels like it compromises what the show is supposed to be. I’m curious if sticks around next year.
(Also, there were a lot of unexpected picks in this episode. Curious how many of them will stick with their coaches or will get cut, when all is said and done.)
(And also an LOL to Reba cleaning up the stage.)
BRILLIANT MINDS: HE DOESN’T KNOW TAYLOR SWIFT?!
“Why do you have a spinal needle in your car” is a very important question and also ABSOLUTELY NOT. (As in: I absolutely did not watch the needle scene. Literally looked away. Nope, nope, nope.)
But, man, this episode was traumatizing. We had a 50 FIRST DATES situation with Steve Howey’s Wyatt James. And then an intern can sense what another person is feeling?! Both sound like absolute nightmares.
