GHOSTS is back on Thursday, October 17 with Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) being held by vengeful Puritan ghost Patience (Mary Holland).

“As you know from the season finale of season 3, she is unhappy with Isaac,” GHOSTS co-showrunner Joe Wiseman tells Give Me My Remote. “Isaac is the one who is sort of responsible for her getting lost in the dirt for the last hundred-plus years when he sneezed and let go of her hand. So she is very upset with Isaac, and she has a plan for him, which I won’t spoil.”

“Patience also just has a fun dynamic with everybody in the house,” co-showrunner Joe Port adds. “It’s always fun to introduce a new ghost, and especially one that has such a point of view as this Puritan who was kicked out of her colony for being too severe—even for a Puritan.”

That’s not the only thing in store for the CBS comedy: After a strike-shortened third season, the series is back to a full season order for season 4.

“I would say, fundamentally, it really doesn’t change a whole lot,” Wiseman notes. “We still want to make every episode count and [be] good and progress things along. The nice thing about our show is that we have such a big cast who are all home run hitters, so it gives us a bunch of different directions to go.”

“So I guess it was a challenge last season, with the shortened order, to just make sure everyone was serviced and make sure everyone got an episode,” he continues. “It worked out mathematically where we’re able to do that, but now we just have a little bit more room to make sure that people get multiple episodes. But it’s still the same. We still want to lead toward an intriguing ending to the season—it’s just a lot more work.”

“Yeah, to me, it’s not different at all, because we always try to have kind of a midseason finale typically when we do 22,” Port adds. “So to my mind, we were just doing that last season, but it was the finale.”

With the addition of Patience to the core group, “the first [few episodes of season 4] obviously are kind of a Patience arc,” Port previews. “That’s always fun to do an arc and have a little recurring story going on for a few episodes. It’s a nice way to think of the season and break it up into chunks.”

“But we’re definitely going to highlight everybody,” he continues. “[They are] going to get moments to shine this season.”
