About Last Night…CHICAGO MED, CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO P.D., and More

Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!
CHICAGO MED: I love that, as heartbreaking as it is/was, Hannah is still struggling with losing a mother under her watch. I’m also glad the show didn’t walk back that this woman died because of medical neglect—because the mortality rate for Black pregnant people is horrifying and shameful and should be talked about more—even if they passed the buck to a doctor that pre-dated her time on the show. But, wow, Jessy Schram and Luke Mitchell were great in their final scene as he rearranged his schedule to work nights and support her.
Nurse Jackie was an interesting character to bring back. Because it’s Natalie Zea, who I love/but also wouldn’t be there to just be an occasional nurse in the background, I’m quasi-worried this arc is going to go to a bad place…I really hope I’m wrong.
(How did Archer’s girlfriend not realize firing his son would have fallout…?!)
THE FLOOR: That art category was tough. I know that happens sometimes, but even as someone who has studied art, I would have struggled with a number of them.
CHICAGO FIRE: Everyone banding together to save Violet’s job?! Oh, my heart. Like, Pascal really proved himself here. We saw glimmers of it with him finally seeming to trust Kidd, but this was a whole other level. Not only did he directly give Violet good advice, but he a) made it so she could temporarily work in the firehouse while things were pending and b) actually went and apologized to his frenemy to get the pieces in place so she would have the appropriate tools at her disposal. (Also, hello to Goodwin! Loved that little crossover scene.)
Very important question: WHEN DID JAVI GET SO BIG?! Veto. I officially feel 901375 years old.
I’m very intrigued by these new jobs: Ritter on Truck? Kylie on Engine?! Okay, I absolutely see why Miranda Rae Mayo was so excited about this.
THE SUMMIT: So, uh, at what point do we get worried about how…manipulative…Dennis is…?
The “two people can get helicoptered to the next checkpoint, but there’s no food” is a brutal, brilliant twist. I don’t know what I would have chosen. I don’t even know what’s right.
But, man, poor Geoff; he deserved better.
CHICAGO P.D.: I’ve been thinking about the scene where it was discussed living in the before and the after, when it comes to trauma, for a bit. It was quietly one of the most moving and important scenes the show has done in a while. And we’ve seen a lot of talk about this lately; we just saw Atwater and Val talk about how he never gets to relax. The show, canonically, repeating the importance of self-care (even if all of the characters don’t necessarily partake) is important.
I’m very intrigued by Chapman being so blunt about her feelings for Voight. It’s not a question about whether there should or shouldn’t be a romance between them, but it’s felt increasingly clear she cares maybe more than he realized. It’s kind of impressive she just straight-up told him this was how she feels, that she’s not expecting anything from him, and, oh, BTW, bye and see you in a few months. Jason Beghe and Sara Bues were really great in this episode—both in their de facto partnership and in the final confrontation—so I’m curious what this does to their dynamic going forward.
[For more on the episode, here’s what Beghe shared.]
