GHOSTS introduced a scary new ghost power on the Thursday, October 24 episode of the CBS comedy.

In the episode, “Sam’s Dad,” Patience (Mary Holland) was horrified that Sam’s father and his girlfriend might share a room, and she expressed her rage via her ghost power…AKA the walls started to bleed

“We were hoping to sort of lean into some horror tropes with this character who was so seeking vengeance against Isaac, and kind of scarily so,” GHOSTS co-showrunner Joe Port tells Give Me My Remote. “We teased it in the premiere, where she mentions that the bloodletting was the cause of her death—a lot of the ghost powers, some of them, have to do with the cause of death. So we thought that would be an interesting way to tie that in.”

“Like Joe said, too, we wanted to gently lean into the horror aspect,” co-showrunner Joe Wiseman adds. “Which is something we haven’t really done a whole lot on the show. And even from that first shot where we revealed Patience in the finale of season 3, it was a very spooky [image]. She stepped through the wall and it felt really fun. It was like, ‘Oh, we haven’t really done that,’ so we wanted to make sure that her power leaned into that a little bit.”

Though Port acknowledges “we’ve seen a lot of people’s powers,” there is still more to learn about a certain group of ghosts: “I think we’re going to learn a little bit more about some of the basement ghosts this season.”

“The last main ghost that we don’t know about is Hetty, and we’ve talked a lot about her power,” Wiseman adds. “I’m not saying we will learn it this season or not, but it’s something that we talk about a lot in the room. And we have some fun ideas, and we’ll see if it fits in [this season]; then we may get to it. But she’s sort of the one remaining big question mark.”

The comedy also has made a running joke about Alberta’s (Danielle Pinnock) power only being humming. Is that a sign of a twist to come or just a simple joke?

“Uh, for now, that’s her power,” Wiseman says with a laugh.

GHOSTS, Thursdays, 8:30/7:30c, CBS
