About Last Night…FBI, THE IRRATIONAL, FBI: MOST WANTED, and More

Let’s talk about Tuesday night’s TV!
FBI: Such an action-packed episode. I’m…wary about what OA is up to. I’m glad Maggie was able to figure out what was going on, and it was probably an ethical grey area, but… (I do love that we’re getting to see Isobel in more boss-mode this season, even though it’s largely because she’s having problems with her agents.)
Jubal is really accidentally going full Elliot Stabler, complete with a kid who suddenly wants to follow in his footsteps, huh? (I do wish we had gotten a beat more with him after they realized the case’s real perp, to see him grapple a little more with what a son might do to get his father’s approval.)
(Poor Scola, because Mr. SWAT was even more painful than his last temporary partner.)
THE VOICE: For as much as I appreciate the speed of the hour-long shows, I do wish they wouldn’t do cliffhangers leading into them. We already have to lose so much (and didn’t see a couple of full battles), so it would have been nice to have more time for the contestants versus the “Who is going to win this steal?” drama. Alas.
FBI: INTERNATIONAL: Oh, I did not see that twist coming. The daughter being found/released so fast was an obvious red flag, but the dad staging his daughter’s kidnapping—without her awareness—to basically frame her mother? Trash, trash, trash human.
Love that Wes got tattoos for his fallen friends, though.
Very curious to see where they take this Smitty storyline…
THE IRRATIONAL: This was fun. Loved having them quasi-confined to the wedding space and having to do their jobs with limited resources…and, of course, in fancy outfits. And I don’t blame Marisa, but I’m sad for her she didn’t take the SAC job; her reasoning made a lot of sense, though, and I’m happy she’s happy.
Also loved seeing Phoebe and Kylie work together, but also interested to see where the endgame is for Phoebe’s job. Will we be seeing her back with the team in a few weeks/months? Will she try something else? Or will this Rachel mess not necessarily blow up the way we think?
FBI: MOST WANTED: Unlike last week, these perps were punks and I felt way less sympathy for them. (The cause is important, to be clear, but they weren’t sympathetic.)
But, man, the heart and soul of this episode was Nina’s family drama. That last scene was brief, but absolutely brutal. And it’s a tough place to be in: Her father loves her, but thinks things should be done in a specific way; Nina disagrees. I’m glad Nina was able to stand up for herself and her newfound family, but her acknowledging to Tink that she was okay if it didn’t broke my heart. Shantel VanSanten was just fantastic.
[For more on the episode, here’s what VanSanten shared.]
