Let’s talk about Wednesday night’s TV!

CHICAGO MED: Two different versions of the patient’s loved one walking away and I had very different reactions to it. I was pleasantly surprised the wife peaced out and left her husband to his mistress. Not saying I was rooting for adultery, but she was very level-headed about giving both of them a chance to live their lives. (A billion times nicer than I would have been if I found out my husband had been cheating on me for years, to be clear.)

On the other hand, the son leaving his father/nixing the possibility of the man getting a life-saving transplant…ouch. Again, absolutely do not blame the young man. His father treated him terribly, he abandoned him, and the man owed him nothing. But, ow.

But, uh, yikes to Goodwin demoting Archer. This isn’t about liking Archer or Lenox more; it’s about who might actually be better for the ED and who the staff might be more loyal to/work with. I don’t know if Lenox is there yet, beyond one or two fans? And, as a television audience, we still don’t know her, either. This is why there shouldn’t have been a co-ED situation to begin with…it was never going to end well. Absolute mess.

(On a lighter note, Ripley and Frost are fun!)

THE FLOOR: Wow, wow, wow to Virginia. It really felt like the game totally flipped this episode as control over the board kept shifting around? I’m skeptical Virginia will go all the way, but it’ll be interesting to see what she can pull out.

CHICAGO FIRE: Look…there are, perhaps, worse places Violet could have trauma-dumped on Flynn than at the funeral, but there aren’t many. That being said, they are so cute together and she deserves this bit of happiness/lightness.

Now that Tori is—hopefully—out of the picture, fingers crossed Carver starts to climb out of the hole he’s been in. He’s been on a personal and professional spiral and I really hope he can bounce back.

The point I made last week about not really knowing Pascal and how it actually makes this storyline with Severide and Bishop more intriguing still one hundred percent stands here because UM, HE WENT LOW. (Valid.) A dangerous game, but not a level I thought he’d stoop to. (Bittersweet seeing Severide have a cigar chat with someone outside of Casey, but I’m glad the show brought it back.)

THE SUMMIT: The show really got me with the editing; I was already deep sighing at the prospect of Dennis making it through yet another week on this show, but, then, twist! He was gone. (I wrote in my notes, “OMG, miracle.”) He wasn’t only manipulative of the other contestants, but he was downright giddy about it. He was really the only person left where I would have been unhappy about them making it to the end. Wishing everyone else good luck.

(On that note, I’m actually shocked we haven’t seen more people quitting during this trek; this isn’t easy. Yeah, it’s a lot of money, but this is difficult. Therron feels like he might be at risk for it at some point, but I do hope he sticks it out.)

CHICAGO P.D.: I really didn’t expect the Gloria mess to come back in such a major way and threaten to upend everything. It’s a valid point: If they capture Gloria, she’s going to destroy Torres’ life and it may take Burgess down, too. I know Burgess said the way to get around that is to build a case so strong she has no wiggle room to play that card, but the cynical part of me thinks Gloria won’t make it out of this arc alive.

But it also feels like they’re trying to contain a flood using only their bare hands. Burgess and Torres have been able to keep this secret, but now Cook knows. Now Cook has been jeopardized, too, because she was the only one who could go undercover and she accidentally revealed something Torres told her. Will she keep this secret? Should she? It’s a terrible spot for a new team member to be in.

This is small, but I loved Torres praying out loud as he ran to try and save Cook. He was a confused, conflicted, guilt-ridden mess for so much of the hour, but at that moment all he could do was run as fast as he could and pray. Like I said, it was small, but such an important bit of depth.
