Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Mouch (Christian Stolte) are faced with a nerve-wracking task in the CHICAGO FIRE fall finale (on Wednesday, November 20): Their officer exams.

“Herrmann and Mouch, and David and Christian, have been through a lot,” Eigenberg tells Give Me My Remote in the video below. “And Christian and I, it’s not necessarily on screen all the way, but I’m a little bit of a straight man or a setup man—I say really stupid things—and then Christian hammers David really hard and we laugh…And that plays over into [the show].”

“Sometimes, when Christian and I look at each other as characters on the show, it’s kind of intense,” he continues. “And they’re going through this [test] together. Mouch is going at it in a professional and responsible…manner. And Herrmann is a little rough shot. He likes to play pickup sticks…And we’ll see what happens.”

Eigenberg says he’s “waiting to see” what the writers will do with this subplot given the real-life implications of a potential promotion. “We have a chief, and we have three firefighter vehicles, and the ambo,” he points out. “And if everybody comes out [successful], we have four officers, plus a chief. And you can’t have that in a real firehouse. So we’ll see what happens.”
