Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) came face-to-face with her stalker on the Wednesday, November 20 fall finale of CHICAGO MED—but she didn’t actually recognize the woman who confronted her at knifepoint.

When Goodwin suggested the mystery woman “put the knife down and you can go home to your family,” she finally IDed her: “But that’s the thing, I don’t have a family anymore because of you.”

The woman, Cassidy, reiterated to Goodwin that she wasn’t memorable to the hospital’s boss “because I don’t matter to you. My wife certainly didn’t matter to you.” So Cassidy filled in the blanks: Her wife, Wendy, was a part of the season-opening shipwreck, and Goodwin was faced with a blood shortage. She opted to give the blood to the man who caused the ship crash.

“If you had chosen Wendy, she would be here right now,” Cassidy insisted.

Goodwin was apologetic, but acknowledged the system is “not perfect, but it tries to be fair.” When she tried to comfort Cassidy, the woman insisted, “You understand nothing,” and stabbed Goodwin.

While she was bleeding out, Goodwin realized her phone was under the couch and asked Cassidy to get her orange juice to control her diabetes; Goodwin said that if her blood sugar couldn’t be regulated, her monitor would alert her kids she was in danger.

Goodwin tried reaching out to Cassidy, asking if Wendy would “want to see you throw your entire life away?”

Wendy acknowledged she wouldn’t; “She was a better person.”

While the duo talked about what might come after death, Goodwin said, “I hope I’m reunited with the people that I’ve lost. And that my children carry just a little piece of me as they move on.”

“I don’t know how to move on from Wendy,” Cassidy admitted. “I can’t.”

“That’s because you’re letting your love for her tear you apart,” Goodwin replied.

But just when it seemed like all hope might be lost, Archer (Steven Weber) came to her office to deliver his letter of resignation. Though he slipped it under the door, Goodwin used the distraction to hit Cassidy and make a run for it…and for a horrified Archer to see her, wounded and with Cassidy on her heels, as the elevator door was shutting.
